I came across an Original Xbox at a thrift store that was in pretty bad condition. After cleaning it up pretty good I realized that it wasn't able to read discs consistently. Sometimes it would start to read a game, and then just stop, but most of the time it did nothing. The disc would spin, but not read. I tried to clean the existing laser and adjust the voltage, but neither worked.

I realized that a new laser replacement was necessary! So, I went out to eBay and grabbed a replacement. Unfortunately, that listing is no longer available, however, I found another one here:

Check out this video of me installing this replacement part in my newly recovered Xbox console that was brought back from the dead and given a new home and a new life!

In this video I am working on the Thomson DVD model. There are more than one DVD models that were released with the original Xbox, so keep that in mind while watching this.
